Texas Attorney General v. Google: privacy settlement
The Attorney General's privacy action against Google, touching location and biometric practices pleaded under the DTPA and CUBI, resolved by a $1.375 billion settlement. On May 9, 2025 the office announced settlement terms in principle. On October 31, 2025 the Attorney General announced that Google had signed the agreement, marking the conclusion of two 2022 suits: a location-tracking suit filed January 24, 2022 (Victoria County), with Incognito-mode claims added in May 2022, and a biometric-identifiers suit filed October 20, 2022 (Midland County). The October 31, 2025 date is the date of the announcement; the exact signature date has not been published, and the executed agreement has not been publicly obtained. A Google spokesperson said the company did not admit wrongdoing or liability and that no product changes were required. Allegations were resolved by agreement, not by adjudication.
