Texas AG investigations of Character.AI and 14 other platforms
On December 12, 2024 the Attorney General announced investigations into Character.AI and fourteen other companies, including Reddit, Instagram, and Discord, regarding privacy and safety practices for minors under the SCOPE Act and the TDPSA. Subsequent dated events, tracked on their own records: an August 18, 2025 investigation of AI chatbot platforms (Meta AI Studio, Character.AI); an October 9, 2025 expansion of the Discord investigation; and the May 22, 2026 suit against Discord. The group investigation did not determine liability; later individual enforcement actions are recorded separately.
