Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act
The DTPA is the Attorney General's general consumer-protection vehicle for privacy and data-security matters: actionable representations and omissions, causation, remedies including civil penalties, and defenses. Many Texas data cases are pleaded as DTPA cases rather than under privacy-specific statutes, and several privacy statutes characterize their violations as DTPA violations for enforcement purposes.
