Industry: All industries · Track: Litigation and Enforcement

The Attorney General's DTPA action against General Motors and OnStar, filed August 13, 2024 in Montgomery County state court, alleging GM installed data-collection technology on vehicles (starting with 2015 model years) to collect drivers' data, compiled 'Driving Scores' for more than 1.8 million Texas drivers, and sold data to insurers and others without drivers' consent. New GM's bankruptcy-court motion states that Texas filed a First Amended Petition on May 20, 2025. No ruling on the merits in the Texas case appears in the sources reviewed as of October 12, 2026. This Texas petition is separate from the federal FTC action against General Motors LLC and OnStar, LLC (FTC Matter 2423052, Docket C-4828), which the FTC lists as 'Under Order' as of January 14, 2026.
